The Magic Continues

As a Harry Potter fanatic who has seen every movie and read every book that JK Rowling has written about the magical world that she has imagined. From the Harry Potter Book Collection to the Harry Potter Movie Collection

I again followed and watched the original The Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Movie and absolutely loved it. I also read the screenplays for The Cursed Child Parts 1 and 2

When it was announced that the second in the series of The Fantastic Beasts movies that just came out on the 16th on November. Without hesitation, I booked tickets to see the movie. The movie is called The Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindwald  (The Screenplay book link) and saw it yesterday. So the following is a review of the movie. There are not going to be any spoilers because that just isn't fair.

A slight recap of  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, however, may be needed. In film 1 we are introduced to Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) a wizard who goes to America to catch a magical creature and along the way meets and befriends a (No Maj) American for (Muggle) Jacob Kowalski, played by Dan Fogle and sisters Tina and Queenie Goldstein played by Kathrine Waterston and Alison Sudol.

And then find out that a young wizard played by Ezra Miller named Credence Barebones who doesn't realise that he was a wizard except that a wizard called Graves played by  Colin Farrel does. Only Graves is actually the wizard called Grindelwald played by Johnny Depp. Who is mentioned in the original series of Harry Potter.

No Spoilers

So here we are the second movie. In this movie, we move forward and Newt has been banned from travelling abroad due to his escapades in America. At the beginning of the movie, we start off in London and are introduced to Albus Dumbledore the wizard played by Jude Law before going to Paris. Going to Paris Newt and Jacob go looking for Tina as well as Credence only Grindelwald is on the case too.

There are lots of twists and turns throughout the entire movie where you are introduced to Newts Brother and one other character who is mentioned in the original series Nicholas Flamel played by Brontis Jodorowsky

You learn a lot more about Newt and begin to learn the history of  Albus Dumbledore and his connection to Grindelwald throughout the entire movie.

Jude Law is a fantastic actor playing the complex character of Albus who has many facets like a real person. He shows these in so many subtle ways that only a brilliant actor can do. He was a brilliant choice as he's physically very like a young Albus who has been played by Richard Harris and Micheal Gambon in the original Harry Potter series.

Eddie Redmayne is fabulous as Newt Scamander in the series so far with his ability to look after all the magical creatures that JK Rowling had envisioned for her magical world.

Ezra Miller is an amazing actor playing Credence who is a confused young wizard and his ability to show this cleverly is so strong you almost feel sorry for what he is and how strong is his magic yet you question who he really is. He also has this trouble and looks for his birth family at which point Grindelwald says something which is questionable and the only person who knows the truth is JK Rowling.

Johnny Depp has been a force to be reckoned with as an actor and his ability to play such a character as Grindelwald is not questioned even though his private life did. His portrayal is brilliant and strong through this movie. He has made this character his own which is as it should be. The younger Grindelwald is played by my cousin Jamie Campbell Bower who was in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and because of this, I thought it was meant to be him all the way through. However, because of his young age, it is perfect that he plays the character at a young age even now showing flashbacks yet again.

The other actors are equally good in their characterisations of the characters making them believable.

I was discussing the connections to The Star Wars franchise last night walking back from the cinema with my girly and we both agreed there are two ways of seeing the magical world. The first is by watching the first series on Harry Potter then watching  Fantastic Beasts series as they come out or watching them chronologically and waiting for the final 3 in the series and then watch the Harry Potter series.

I give this movie 5*

Love and Peace
